Elementary Education, B.A.E. (Pathways)

Are you interested in teaching children in kindergarten through grade 8? The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education is a preparation program leading to an Arizona Standard Professional Elementary Certificate with a Structured English Immersion (SEI) endorsement. The program is designed for students who are transferring to the University of Arizona and have completed general education course requirements at other institutions. All courses are offered at UA satellite locations in Douglas, Sierra Vista, Nogales, and Tucson. The in-person, hybrid, and online courses have been designed with the working student in mind. Throughout the program, students receive ongoing support from a team of highly-qualified instructors and mentors.

Graduate with a solid foundation of current best practices in teaching
Prepare to successfully and confidently enter the teaching workforce

Sample Courses

Take courses from top scholars in a variety of subjects, including:

  • TEDV 311: Literacy in Elementary School 
  • TEDV 324: Teaching Exceptional Children
  • TEDV 332 and 333 (Block):  Mathematics and Science Instruction and Assessment
  • LCEV 408: Methods of Teaching English to English Language Learners

Student Teaching

The final semester of the program is a 15-week, full-time, student teaching internship in an elementary grade level that aligns with each student’s teaching goals. During the student teaching experience, you will continue to be supported by teachers and professors who have a wide range of expertise in elementary education.

Careers

Graduates teach in public and private elementary schools in grades K-8 in Arizona and other states. Other graduates have gone on to graduate school in counseling, special education, and policy studies.
