"Field Experiences, Co-teaching and the Clinical Mathematics Classroom."

Dr. Michele Crockett, Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, Eastern New Mexico University

Michele D. Crockett is a product of the University of California. She earned a BA in the Biological Sciences and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from UC Riverside. Her studies at UCLA led to a PhD in Education, where she focused on cognition, teaching and learning in mathematics.

The University of Southern California was her first academic appointment, followed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Currently, she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Eastern New Mexico University, returning to her Southwestern roots. She teaches math and science methods undergraduate courses and graduate courses in critical pedagogy and school reform.

In addition to her teaching role, she is the Professional Development Coordinator for the school that serves as the College’s professional development site. For school year 2018-19, she was awarded a $100,000 grant by the New Mexico Public Education Department to begin the process of transforming the PD site into a laboratory school for preparing teacher candidates and practicing teachers. This project will be the subject of her presentation.
