Crystal M. Soltero

Crystal Soltero is an Associate Professor of Practice  and Director of the Literacy, Learning, and Leadership Major and Adolescents, Community, and Education Minor  in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Sociocultural Studies.  A former secondary history teacher and James Madison Fellow, Dr. Soltero completed her doctoral studies in Teaching and Teacher Education with an emphasis in History at the University of Arizona. Soltero's dissertation focused on case studies of white teachers in predominantly Hispanic classroom settings. Her research interests include K-12 curricular issues in social studies, teacher/student relationships, and the development of an ethic of “care” in diverse classrooms.   Soltero is a member of the Holocaust Education Taskforce for the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona and a board member of Make Way for Books, an early literacy non-profit in Tucson.
