Carol A. Evans
Carol Evans (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin) is Associate Professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Sociocultural Studies. Her primary teaching responsibilities are in the bilingual education and Multicultural English as a Second Language (MESL) portion of the Elementary Teacher Preparation Program, where she coordinates the school site methods cohorts, teaches literacy methods courses for bilingual and second language settings, and supervises student teachers. She teaches graduate courses relating to teacher education, language, literacy, and equity (in both the Teaching and Teacher Education and the Language, Reading and Culture Programs). She has directed a federal grant project for the preparation of bilingual teachers. Her research and publications focus on the schooling of English learners, and the preparation of teachers to work respectfully and effectively with these children. A more recent research interest is the accessibility and quality of higher education for Mexican Americans.
