Walter Doyle is a professor in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Sociocultural Studies. He taught at the University of North Texas and served as Research Scientist in the Research and Development Center for Teacher Education at the University of Texas at Austin. He was Editor of the Elementary School Journal, an Associate Editor of the American Educational Research Journal, and US Editor of the Journal of Curriculum Studies. From 1986 to 1988 he was Vice-President for Division K (Teaching and Teacher Education) of the American Educational Research Association. He was a member of the Editorial Boards for the Handbook of Research on Teaching (3rd ed.) and the Handbook of Research on Teacher Education and contributed chapters to both volumes as well as to the Handbook of Research on Curriculum. He has published in the areas of classroom processes, curriculum theory, and teacher education. His most recent work is focused on curriculum enactment and teacher practicality.
