A Student Ambassador for the College of Education (COE) professionally and proudly represents the student perspective of the college to prospective and new students and family, the University of Arizona community, and other groups/organizations as called upon. Ambassadors communicate and present information as needed at various programs and events (e.g., Arizona Experience, Arizona Road Trip, and other recruitment events, career fairs, new student orientation). In exchange, Ambassadors are provided with skill development and leadership opportunities. Being a Student Ambassador is an honor that reflects academic rigor, leadership, and a commitment to higher education. Meet members of our UA College of Education Ambassadors committee below.

Makenna Clark

Makenna Clark (she/her/hers) was born in Peoria, Arizona, where she attended Arizona public schools from elementary to high school. Following high school, she came to the University of Arizona to pursue a bachelor’s degree in literacy, learning, and leadership at the College of Education. With hopes of becoming a school counselor, she is also pursuing a minor in educational psychology. While pursuing her undergraduate degree at the college, she has gained experience in both classroom and non-classroom settings, working with and mentoring children of all ages. These experiences have sparked a passion in her to help students develop their inner-confidence so they can achieve all that they want to accomplish. Following the completion of her undergraduate studies, she has plans of pursuing a master’s degree in counseling education. As an ambassador for the College of Education, her goal is to be a resource for future students of the college, especially those hoping to pursue a career outside of teaching. She wants students to know that, whether they need help choosing a major or need guidance on how to get involved on campus or within the college, she is here to support them

Nicolette Davila

Nicolette Davila (she/her/hers) was born and raised in a small southern California town. Now, a student in California’s neighboring state, she knew the University of Arizona was the right place for her the second she set foot on campus. No stranger to the classroom setting, she entered the university knowing she wanted to pursue a career in teaching. Growing up, her aunt, a fifth grade teacher of 25 years, would invite her to help out in the classroom during holiday breaks. This time spent in the classroom setting instilled a passion in her to be an educator. Over the past two years, she’s grown close to two family friends who have disabilities. These relationships furthered her passion and led her to join the mild-to-moderate disabilities program in the college. As an ambassador, she hopes to share her love of the college and support those who are interested in applying.

Stella Felix

Stella Felix (she/her/hers) was born in Denver, Colorado and lived there until the age of five when she and her family moved to Tucson. She has been living here ever since. Felix entered the University of Arizona as a pre-physiology major with a dream of becoming an OB/GYN. During her sophomore year, she had a change of heart and, thanks to her family, was encouraged to do some soul searching. After working in a kindergarten classroom of a local K-12 charter school, she knew a career in early childhood education was the right fit for her. Now she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education while working part-time at a daycare center that prepares children ages 1-4 for kindergarten. She joined the team of COE Ambassadors to share her passion for early childhood education with others. In this role, she hopes to be a role model for future students and looks forward to helping high school students find answers to their questions about higher education.

Annabelle Fine

Annabelle Fine (she/her/hers) was born and raised in New Jersey. After high school, she was ready for a change so she travelled across the country to attend the University of Arizona. Starting anew in an unfamiliar city has helped her grow and step outside of her comfort zone. One thing she brought from her home state to Arizona is her dream to teach. Before college she worked at a local gymnastics gym where she taught children ages 3-16. She was inspired by the impact she had on the lives of her students. Now, here at the College of Education, she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in pre-education and is on track to receive a degree in elementary education with an ESL endorsement. As an ambassador, she’s looking forward to sharing information about the college and its programs with potential University of Arizona students.

Alyssa Gutierrez

Alyssa Gutierrez (she/her/hers) was born and raised in southern California. After graduating from high school, she moved to Tucson to pursue an education at the University of Arizona. A literacy, learning, and leadership student, she grew up knowing she wanted to be a teacher. Since beginning at the university, she discovered her passion for working with students with disabilities so she began pursuing a minor in special education as well. To become more involved with the college, she joined the team of ambassadors. In this role, she hopes to encourage students, both current and future, to get involved as well. She hopes to help students understand all of the options and career possibilities that a degree from the College of Education can provide. 

Lauren Hovland

Lauren Hovland (she/her/hers) calls herself Arizonan born and raised, even though she was actually born in Michigan. When she was two years old, she and her family moved to Mesa, Arizona and then at age 7, they moved to the growing city of Maricopa, Arizona. During her senior year of high school, she had initial plans of attending NAU to pursue a degree in photography. She realized, however, that the cold isn’t for her and that photography is simply a hobby she enjoys. This brought her to the University of Arizona, and she’s felt right at home since day one. She entered the school undecided about what degree she was interested in pursuing, but quickly realized a bachelor’s degree in mild to moderate disabilities was the right fit for her. After several hands-on teaching experiences, she’s certain this is her passion. She looks forward to helping students cope with and learning more about their disabilities so they can enjoy learning and life.

Ashley Michalski

Ashley Michalski (she/her/hers) is from Naperville, Illinois. In the first grade, she befriended a boy named Jack, and, thanks to his radiant energy, funny jokes, and caring attitude, she still calls him her best friend today. She says Jack has changed her life tremendously because he has helped her view people with kindness. The first time she entered a special education classroom was because of Jack. Jack and these classroom experiences in the first grade helped form her dream of becoming a special education teacher. Now at the College of Education, she is following her dream by pursuing a degree in mild to moderate disabilities. After graduating from college, she hopes to pursue a master’s degree in severe to profound disabilities. As an ambassador, her goal is to spread awareness about available opportunities throughout the college. She hopes to use her energy and knowledge about the college to help future students feel like a Wildcat from day one.

Joseph Sturm

Joseph Sturm (he/him/his) was born in Texas but grew up moving around to different cities throughout Europe and the United States. He eventually moved to Tucson when he was in the sixth grade and has stayed put ever since. After graduating from high school, he decided to enter the University of Arizona to pursue a bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in Spanish. After falling in love with the university environment and quickly realizing that Spanish wasn’t the right fit for him, he decided to change his major to both literacy, learning, and leadership and creative writing to enhance his studies and focus on a career path towards higher education. After graduating with his two bachelor’s degrees, he hopes to be accepted into the educational policy program in the college so he can earn a master’s degree and advocate for students who are not getting the education they deserve. He is passionate about ensuring that every student is able to have the education they want. He hopes to help students discover and utilize their passions so they can gain new experiences and further their education. As an ambassador for the college, his goal is to be a resource for future students of the college and help them learn about the opportunities available to them. He hopes to expand their view on getting involved in the college and help create an experience that will leave them with great pride in having attended the University of Arizona.

Elizabeth Trahan-Gaballa

Elizabeth Trahan-Gaballa (she, her, hers) was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana before moving to Tucson 12 years ago at the age of 19.  About three years ago, she decided to apply to the University of Arizona to pursue a degree in elementary education, which she eventually changed to her current major of literacy, learning, and leadership. As a single mother, full-time student, and employee, she underwent several challenges that came with the change of schedule and priorities. Feelings of doubt and dejection led her to take a semester off to reevaluate and save money. After a few months of needed self-reflection, she decided to come back to the college, and this, she says was, “the best decision I ever made.” When she returned, she began exploring the different majors available, leading her to pursue a degree in literacy, learning, and leadership because of its flexible career path options. Now, as an intern at the college’s Worlds of Words, she utilizes the knowledge and skills learned from her coursework while gaining experience in digital media. She says her experience at the College of Education has been life-changing. She looks forward to giving back to the college and its students in her role as an ambassador.
