Learn about historical, legal, pedagogical, and social issues underlying services in special education and rehabilitation
Gain an understanding of the lived disability experience and acquire skills to provide direct service and advocacy
Study theory and approaches to serving disabled students with language and cultural differences
Sample Courses
This 18-unit minor requires a minimum of 9 upper division (300-400 level) units. Through this program, you will take courses from top scholars in a variety of subjects, including:
- SERP 400: Survey of Exceptional Students (3 units)
- SERP 402: Behavior Principles and Disability: Assessment and Intervention (3 units)
- SERP 416: Disability Perspectives and Narratives (3 units)
- SERP 460: Advocacy for Social Justice In Human Services (3 units)
Careers
The program will help prepare students for a variety of careers in the field of special education and rehabilitation, including roles as an itinerant teacher, case manager, and alcohol/drug treatment.
