Dr. James Chalfant is a professor emeritus in the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies at the University of Arizona. He co-directs the Special Education Administration Leadership program to prepare directors of special education. He teaches primarily doctoral and master's level courses in the areas of policy, issues, and special education services. Dr. Chalfant has led three national task forces for the United States Department of Education and served as a consultant and resource to state departments throughout the country and abroad on issues in the areas of learning disabilities and school-based teams. He has published work in many areas of special education. His primary research interest area is Teacher Assistance Teams, a school-based problem solving team model he created with Dr. Margaret Pysh, which has been implemented throughout the United States and many parts of the world. Dr. Chalfant's other research interest is developing effective learning techniques for adolescents and young adults and support systems for the educational agencies serving them.
