Carol Evans (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin) is an associate professor in the Department of Teaching and Teacher Education. Her primary teaching responsibilities are in the bilingual education portion of the Initial Teacher Preparation Program, where she directs the school site methods blocks, teaches bilingual literacy methods courses, and supervises student teachers. She occasionally teaches graduate courses relating to language and literacy in the Department of Language, Reading and Culture. She has directed a federal grant project for the preparation of bilingual teachers. Her research and publications focus on the schooling of English learners, and the preparation of teachers to work respectfully and effectively with these children. A more recent research interest is the accessibility and quality of higher education for Mexican Americans.
