Irene L Topor, Ph.D.

Current Research

Dr. Topor’s research interest is in developing appropriate fitness protocols for congenitally blind adults so that these persons can have the same opportunity to become as physically fit as the average adult. Her research objective is to develop physical fitness protocols that address the needs of congenitally blind adults to become fit by helping them learn to move in three-dimensional space and learn the motions required for fitness activities.

Her additional interests include researching the experiences teachers of students with visual impairments (TVIs) are having with their students for whom English is not a native language. Research includes how teachers were prepared to work with this population and strategies they use in supporting the learning of their blind or visually impaired students in this category. A second study will examine the instructional experiences of Arizona TVIs and their students with visual impairments who are English Language Learners.
