To become certified to teach in Arizona, prospective teachers must take two Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessment exams: one in professional knowledge (teaching skills) and one in subject knowledge.

Additional information for Cross-categorical Special Education: It is highly recommended that you take an additional subject knowledge test. Cross-categorical students seeking certification should take: Professional Knowledge Elementray (91), Subject Knowledge Special Education: Cross-categorical (22), plus, either: Subject Knowledge Elementary Education (01) or a secondary subject knowledge content area test.
