TUSD’s Cooper Center for Environmental Learning is seeking an intern to assist in program design for middle school visits to the site as well as work on the webpage. the Intern may also assist group and classroom leaders with programs. This internship provides an opportunity to increase knowledge skills about the desert and ecological systems, experience working students in an outdoor setting, and motivated interns may take on additional responsibilities. It also provides an opportunity to show off your webpage design skills. The Cooper Center is located on the far west end of Tucson just north of Speedway Blvd. near the Tucson Mountains. It has provided opportunities for students in area schools to experience the Sonoran Desert and learn about ecology and plants and animals of the desert for the past 30 years.
Interns would need to have transportation to the site or be willing to participate in carpooling or biking to the facility.
Semester: Fall 2011 and Spring 2012

We are looking for a graduate student intern interested in the following: · Assist with national research of community visioning processes, outcomes, lessons learned
· Assist with local qualitative research which may include survey development, public engagement conversations (Fall 2011) and deliberative dialogues (2012), participant interviews and follow-up
· Assist with marketing and outreach to the jurisdictions, neighborhoods, unincorporated communities, tribal governments, businesses and nonprofits to produce an inclusive and diverse IGT process. This includes creative, media, publicity, social media and/or other components of IGT communication
· Attend planning and evaluation meetings and assist with recording meeting sessions, outcomes and conducting follow-up
· Facilitate or act as Visual Recorder for small group IGT Community Conversations, particularly UA or PCC Campus Based or with regional Youth Groups

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a graduate student intern for Fall 2011. Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitative assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict Position Description:
The Employment and Economic Development Department of the International Rescue Committee Tucson requests to once again be a part of the “Paul Lindsey Internships in Education Program“. The internship position would include assisting in the development of a Vocational ESL program within IRC Tucson. This program would provide refugee clients with the experience needed to obtain entry-level employment. Additionally the intern would develop and administer service appropriate client surveys for various programs within the EED department. Such programs would include:
· Job Readiness Training
· Vocational ESL Training
· Financial Literacy Education &
· Micro Enterprise.
IRC Tucson was very fortunate to have been a part of the “Paul Lindsey Internships in Education Program“ this year. This experience enriched our staff and provided our intern the opportunity to work with and “make a difference” in the lives of persons from varying cultures and countries who are eager to become “New Americans”.

Reading Seed Children’s Literacy Program in collaboration with the Wildcat School is seeking an intern to oversee and evaluate an innovative reading program. Middle-school students are trained and supported in serving as “reading buddies” to children in primary grades. The hope is the model will then be implemented at other schools. The intern will work primarily at the Wildcat School and will interact with school staff, Reading Seed staff and other stakeholders as needed. The position will include helping train middle-school students, supporting them in their coaching efforts, collecting data on both sets of students, and evaluating outcomes.
Reading Seed recruits and trains volunteer reading coaches from the community to assist children reading below grade level in grades one through three, offers a lending library of books that match students’ interests with their reading abilities, and distributes free books to children to encourage independent reading.
The Wildcat School (K-8) envisions a dynamic educational process incorporating partnerships with local colleges and universities, community groups, and businesses. Wildcat students have time on the U of A campus, exposure to a wide array of academic disciplines, and access to current research through outreach programs across every campus, from fine arts to technology.

Iskashitaa Refugee Harvesting Network- Iskashitaa Refugee Harvesting Network is a Tucson based non-profit that empowers U.N. refugees from Africa, Asia and the Middle East by creating opportunities to use their knowledge and skills from their native countries to help their families better integrate with the larger Tucson community while gaining life skills that serve them in America. In addition to gleaning local fruits and vegetables from Tucson backyards and farms to provide supplemental food sources for refugees (75,000 pounds annually), Iskashitaa staff and volunteers mentor refugee families, teach ESL and coordinate sewing and craft classes, help refugees find employment and much more. It is our goal not only to assist refugees on the road to self-sufficiency, but also help them make connections with the greater Tucson community. Preference: Graduate Student who is able to continue for a second semester
Title: Educational Programming Specialist
Major Responsibilities:
1. Education Outreach to Refugees - Refine existing educational materials designed to help refugees acclimate to Tucson (topics include pool safety, nutrition, proper disposal of trash, and how to save on cost of electric bills). Create new materials as needed. Coordinate the translation into refugee languages and distribution of these materials to refugee groups.
2. Public Relations Assistance- approach University of Arizona, Pima Community College, and University of Phoenix to recruit students in media arts including graphic design, journalism, photography, and videography to work with Iskashitaa on select projects, allowing the organization to increase capacity to communicate with and assist refugees in Tucson.
3. Community Liaison Support – represent Iskashitaa at community meetings and keep community partners aware of Iskashitaa’s programs and services for refugees as well as upcoming events. Deliver at least four community presentations per semester to educate Tucsonans about Refugee Resettlement as a whole and Iskashitaa Refugee Harvesting Network specifically.

Voices for Education Internship: Tucson based public education advocary non-profit seeks an intern to assist on policy, research, community programs, and events concerning educaitonal issues. Duties will include researchng state and federal educaiton policy and education funding, assisting in outreach to local governmental officials, organizaitons, individuals and buisnesses, developing materials for the Parent Leadership Institute, working with data collected through SPSS, and providing some administratives support to staff (familiarity with SPSS desirable.) Voices is located within walking distance of the UA campus. Internship duties may require use of a car or bus. Graduate students preferred but will consider qualiifed undergraduates as well. The Regional College Access Center Intern will have the option to work on two or more of the following activities under the direction of the RCAC Coordinator: Website & Internet Assistance - Send updates for RCAC website to Website Developer, update social networking sites: Twitter, Facebook, My Space, and assist the coordinator with reading, answering, & sending e-mail.
Evaluation Assistance - Assist in the development of surveys, make survey calls, distribute surveys by mail or e-mail, input survey data, assist in the evaluation of data,
Workshops, Presentation & Events Assistance - Assist with preparation for and during workshops, presentations, and events as well as attend, and/or lead workshops, presentations, and/or events when RCAC Coordinator cannot.
Advising Assistance - Make and keep advising appointments with students and their families regarding college planning, assist with preparation for advising appointments, and be available for advising to students who walk-in with questions.

Literacy for Life is a coalition of individuals, and nonprofit, business, media, government, funding, and educational organizations that understand increasing the literacy level of our community is the single best way to ensure a prosperous economy and an improved quality of life for everyone in Tucson. We’re seeking to create a literacy movement in Southern Arizona! Established in 2008 as a program of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, we:
The intern will work directly for the Director of Operations, with three areas of focus.
1. Grant research and writing: The Coalition is writing for funding through grant proposals to funders. The intern will assist with development of the funding menu and will work on the research and writing of grant proposals.
2. Database Management: The Coalition is developing a database of measures of literacy utilized by the provider organizations who are members of the Coalition. The intern will work on the database for managing that information. This includes general administrative support with document management.
3. Communications: Regular communications within the Coalition and outside must be written and distributed, usually electronically. The intern will assist in creating and distributing those communications.

Junior Achievement of Arizona-Southern District, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, partners business with education to provide volunteer-driven programs on financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship to 14,000 students from Kindergarten through 12th grade throughout Southern Arizona. Junior Achievement seeks an intern (preferably a graduate student) to assist with K-12 program implementation, volunteer recruitment and training, school coordination and administration, special events and fundraising. Primary duties include: -New classroom volunteer recruitment, with a special focus on U of A graduate student clubs and service organizations
-New classroom volunteer training
-Some program management, including volunteer placement, volunteer/educator communications, status checks and updates, follow-up calls, data entry, document management, school event management and customer service
-Pre- and post-program survey tabulation and assessment to assist in fundraising
-Volunteer and educator evaluation tabulation and assessment to maintain program quality
Additional duties may include:
-Volunteer recognition
-Grant research and writing
-Assisting with coordination and execution of special fundraising events (Bowl-A-Thon, golf tournament, auction)

UNDERGRADUATE INTERNSHIPS

Tucson’s Regional Science Center is seeking an intern to assist in refurbishing inquiry kit materials checked out to teachers throughout Tucson.. This includes many different facets of materials management and development. Light maintenance of the Center is included as are completing simple clerical duties such as filing, copying, and maintaining teacher guides and student handouts. The internship provides opportunities to develop skills of time and materials management, record-keeping systems for materials management, and collegial workplace skills as most assignments are completed with a team. The Regional Science Center develops, maintains, and provides materials for teaching inquiry-based science in Tucson Unified School District, Sunnyside Unified School District, Flowing Wells School District, and several Charter Schools in the area. These kit materials provide resources for classroom teachers to implement an inquiry-based, hands-on science curriculum for students in grades K-8.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is looking for a youth program intern. Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading non sectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. IRC Tucson provides refugees a fresh start and opportunities to use their greatest resources-their motivation, their skills and their experiences – to become independent and self-sufficient new Americans. Currently, the office resettles and/or provides assistance to over 700 refugees, asylees, and special immigrants per year. The Youth Program Intern will report directly to the Center for Well-Being Program Manager. This position will assist the Youth Program Coordinator to establish and maintain a youth program which addresses the after school needs of refugee youth in Tucson. The Youth Program Intern will assist Youth Program Coordinator with the following:
In addition, the intern will communicate and coordinate regularly with the Center for Well-Being Program Manager to ensure that services are being delivered effectively and in a timely manner, attend required staff meetings, and complete other duties as assigned.
